The Denver Broncos are building up their coaching staff at an extremely fast pace.
Former NFL linebacker Michael Wilhoite was named the Broncos' outside linebackers coach on Thursday.
Denver also spent Thursday hiring Vance Joseph as their defensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi to the team's offensive staff, and Davis Webb to take over duties as quarterbacks coach.
Wilhoite spent the last two seasons as the linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he has strong ties to Broncos head coach Sean Payton due to his two seasons coaching under him from 2019 to 2020 as a special teams assistant and then as a defensive assistant.
Wilhoite went undrafted in 2011 coming out of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. After a short stint in the UFL that same year, Wilhoite was signed to the practice squad of the San Francisco 49ers and spent six seasons with the team.
In 2017, Wilhoite would sign with the Seattle Seahawks which was the last season of his playing career.
The Broncos weren't a good team in 2022 going 5-12. However, they finished seventh in total defense and were tied for fifth in interceptions.
So, Wilhoite and Vance Joseph have a challenging road ahead to keep the Broncos defense among the NFL's elite.
