The Denver Broncos are taking advantage of one of the league's more slept-on rules that only a few people know about.
The NFL has a rule that allows every team to carry one extra player over their roster limit, and yes, it feels like no one knows about the rule. The International Player Pathway Program is one way to get more elite talent into the NFL from places around the world.
The Denver Broncos' IPPP player is Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi, a 22-year-old defensive lineman from Nigeria. He will never count against the roster limit if he makes the team. The Broncos have 91 guys on their roster, one over the limit because he does not count.
The Broncos are taking extra advantage of this rule this offseason, as Chisom Ndubuisi is a guy that has caught the coaching staff's eyes.
"He's doing well," Sean Payton told reporters last Thursday. "The biggest challenge [is that] no one's got shoulder pads on or anything yet. He looks good. He's smart, and I like him. I like that we have him. I think it'll be easier for me to answer that question seven days into training camp because they're the ones that are challenged with this type of practice. One guy is in charge of the 'A' gap on defense, and there's an offensive lineman in charge of the 'A' gap. There has to be somebody acquiescing. That will sort out once we get the pads on."
The Broncos really like what they see in Chisom Ndubuisi, and they need depth and upgrades at his position too. This would be an interesting camp story to watch as the offseason continues on.
