The Denver Broncos didn't come close to living up to their expectations last season.

Russell Wilson was a disaster on the football field, accounting for some of the lowest marks in his entire career across almost every measurable statistic. In fact, Wilson went semi-viral for the simple fact that with the season almost over, he had more bathrooms in his house than touchdown passes thrown. Injuries didn't help the organization either as the team was hit with one of the nastier injury bugs.

Some statistics were released that showcased just how bad the Broncos were as an organization. The team wound up standing alone in the one category you don't want to be the best at: ending drives with no points.

Warren Sharp tweeted out a simple image detailing how often a team's possession ended in either a punt or a turnover in 2022. For those who maybe don't know just how bad the Broncos were, they were dead last. Denver staggeringly had 117 drives last season end in a punt or a turnover.

Wilson playing better and getting more continuity with the offense will be huge in reducing the astronomical number. Outside of that, Sean Payton has been busy this offseason with getting weapons and protection for Wilson up front. While Wilson will still need to execute plays and get players like Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton involved early and often, the organization is doing everything it can to set him up for success.

The Denver Broncos gave up a king's ransom to bring in what they thought would be a difference-maker at the quarterback position. If Wilson is to have another subpar season with the weapons he has at his disposal, the team could look to trade him away just a few short years into his tenure. Just look at what the team did in less than a season with Nathaniel Hackett, they cut ties and ran almost immediately.

Despite their lack of success on the football field as of late, the organization understands the importance of getting the right people on the bus, so to speak. The front office is hoping that the addition of Peyton along with a huge step from Russell Wilson could be enough to bring the team back to their championship-caliber ways.

Sean Payton has his work cut out for him. The one positive is that the team can't get much worse, right?
