We have seen things like this before but in a much worse magnitude. Teams have had actual fights with each other before, and it usually turns out to be alright. Luckily the Broncos didn't get in a fight; things just got "chippy," as Payton called it.
"Obviously, you know, [practice] got a little chippy, and I liked how we responded and got through the workout," Payton told reporters before opening it up to questions.
I would argue that you want to see this, especially from a team like this early. The Broncos had no fight in them left towards the end of last year before Nathaniel Hackett got fired. Seeing this not only shows that the players care but that they are ready to compete again.
Everything starts over now. They don't have five wins and 12 losses right now. It's a fresh start, and everyone is 0-0. Mandatory minicamps are really where the winning starts. You need to go hard there to have success.
This isn't something to be worried about at all, and the fact that Payton likes the way they responded should speak volumes about how disciplined he has this team already.
