The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs played quite the game on Sunday in Week 14. Just when we thought it was over, it wasn't, and the Broncos showed us something we haven't seen all season long.
If you went into this game as a Broncos fan thinking they would win, well, you are crazy, just to be frank. I don't think anyone thought they would beat the Chiefs.
I also don't think anyone thought they would put up as big of a fight as they did. I know I sure didn't. I'll be the first one to say that when the score was 27-0 in favor of Kansas City, I thought it was over for sure.
But, it wasn't over, yet. Yeah, the Broncos still didn't win, but they were still able to compete on both sides of the ball against a good team, which is a first for them this season.
The way they were able to score 21 straight points after being down 27-0 speaks volumes about this team. Here we are making fun of them each and every week because they can't seem to score two touchdowns, but then against the best offense in the league, they are able to go head-to-head with them.
After the game, head coach Nathaniel Hackett seemed proud, even after taking a tough loss like that.
"The goal was to win," Hackett told reporters after the game. "We all know that. But to watch these guys when they are down 27-0, everyone had a choice how they wanted to finish that game. … Those guys didn't blink."
While Hackett may not be here next season, it is good that this team, and especially the core of this team, were able to experience something like this together in a losing season.
They are now 3-10, and a few players had their best games of the year. Russell Wilson showed some flashes of the guy Denver thought they were getting, and if you look at quarterback rating, actually outplayed Mahomes.
These guys can learn from a game like this. They were able to have a complete game on both sides of the ball with injuries to very key players. The offense did this without two starting receivers.
So, even while they lost, Hackett's message is right and powerful. This team finally had a good game on both sides of the ball. They fought back, and they didn't give up. Not to mention they gave the fans something to cheer about.
