The Baltimore Ravens are signing one of the Denver Broncos' former studs.
Last year didn't go as planned for the Broncos and their then-starting running back Melvin Gordon, but things are going better. Shortly after winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs on their practice squad, he signed a one-year deal worth $3 million.
Honestly, that is a great deal for someone who was just on a practice squad. We know that the Ravens have issues with their running backs every year. They have a running back every season, or several of them, that end up having season-ending injuries.
Their offense is great for running backs. Because of their injury luck, Gordon may have a pretty decent role. Not to mention they will compete for a Super Bowl.
The more important aspect of this ordeal is that Gordon was just on the radio talking about how bad it sucks to be a running back in this league.
"It's just so tough for running backs right now, man," Gordon said to Jim Rome on CBS Sports Radio this week. "You have a lot of running backs that are out there, and we just don't get no love. It's literally the worst position to play in the NFL right now. It literally sucks."
And it does suck. You have guys like the Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, who are two of the best in the league at the position and can't get $10 million a year.
Yet, some offensive linemen, or even kickers, are getting far more.
So, for Gordon to get $3 million after keeping it real on the radio, and saying what everyone in the league feels about the position, is great. Sure, he doesn't play for the Broncos anymore and has played for a rival since then, but fans have to love that he is getting his money.
This could help others around the league get theirs.
Gordon was also contemplating retirement at one point.
"Well, you know, I got the, I got a ring, so, the hard part is done," Gordon said on Good Morning Football. "I'm just; I'm just looking for somewhere to play, man, you know, just have fun on the back end of things, you know, I just want to enjoy it [football] on the way out."
So, it's fair to say he will take the money and play for at least one more year.
