The Denver Broncos were given one takeaway from an NFL analyst that rings true to every fan after the 2023 offseason.
The Broncos had a spectacular 2023 off-season. It was far better than the 2022 offseason, even though at the time we thought that was one of the best ever because of the trade for Russell Wilson. In hindsight, that offseason wasn't great. In 2023, they did things not only differently, but the right way.
The new ownership group made it their mission to get an experienced head coach in the building and they got one who had won a Super Bowl before in Sean Payton. They aced the free agency period by spending a lot of money and it looks like they could have had a pretty good draft too.
But, there are some things to take away from this 2023 offseason. What one NFL analyst said about the 2023 offseason couldn't ring more true.
DENVER BRONCOS: NO EXCUSES
The Broncos don’t have any excuses to not make a run at the division title and advance in the playoffs. They spent a ton of money in free agency shoring up the few roster weaknesses remaining from a disappointing 2022 season. They drafted three potential contributors in Marvin Mims, Drew Sanders, and Riley Moss. They also have the head coach who was the best possible choice for them to make the most out of the roster. There are no more excuses for this Broncos team. A winning record is the floor of expectations. Playoffs should be, as well. Anything short of that, and the season is a failure. – Trevor Sikkema, PFF.com
I couldn't agree more, and the fans probably feel the same way. It has been seven or eight years since the last time this team was successful. That is far too long for a franchise that is historically one of the best in the league. This is a winning franchise, but the last decade outside of the Super Bowl would beg to differ.
Now, they have no excuses not to at least get better. There was really no reason that team should have gotten worse last year, but they did. Now, with a good offensive line, some more weapons, young pieces on defense, and a head coach that knows how to run an offense and win, there are no excuses. The fans will be expecting the same too.
