The Denver Broncos did something in the 2023 NFL Draft that we don't see often. I think most know what I'm referring to. They took a cornerback, but not just any cornerback, a white one when that is historically a position that we just don't see white guys play, which is completely fine.

That is why Riley Moss, the Broncos' third pick in this past draft, is so polarizing. Well, that and because he is actually very good at the position, and is one of the most athletic guys at his position too. Moss has all the tools to be very good.

He, and the fact the Broncos drafted him, has caught the eyes of other front office execs throughout the league.

Execs offered a range of opinions on Moss, the corner Denver spent its 2024 third-rounder to acquire. “I think he is polarizing because teams are looking at it like taking a White corner, but if you take everything away from it, he is one of the better athletes in this draft, a freaky athlete,” one of these execs said. “He is a good football player.” -Mike Sando, The Athletic

The Denver Broncos needed another presence in the defensive back room, and that's what Moss is – a defensive back. He played some safety at the college level, as well as on the outside and in the slot. Moss can be very good, and pairing him with a guy like Patrick Surtain will be great too.

Those two could turn out to be an elite duo. The Broncos needed another guy because the cornerback room was looking like Surtain, Mathis, Williams, and a few practice squad players. That wouldn't get it done during the season, so adding another guy was something they had to do.

Luckily they were able to get a guy as polarizing as Moss, who has all the athletic tools. He still needs some development, but being in Vance Joseph's defense will help with that.
