The Denver Broncos now have a player who has officially launched himself into superstar status.

It's frequently hard to find the positive in things when the team you root for is so bad. But the Broncos did have some positives in 2022, even though it was one of the more embarrassing seasons we have seen by any team in some time. It felt like every week; they were inflicting self-wounds.

But the Broncos' biggest positive last year was how young cornerback Patrick Surtain elevated his game to a new level. He truly inserted himself into the conversation of elite cornerbacks in the league. And, based on the rankings CBS Sports just put out, he may have inserted his name into superstar status.

2. Patrick Surtain II, Broncos Surtain is basically the prototype of what you want a corner to look like these days. He ranks in the 95th percentile or higher in height, weight, wingspan, arm length, and hand size, and it shows when he's on the field. He doesn't have elite short-area speed, but he makes up for it with outstanding agility, leaping ability, and timing on his breaks. He is able to blanket even the best No. 1 receivers on a weekly basis, and he's only going to get better as he physically matures and learns more about the game. – Jared Dubin, CBS Sports

Dubin has Surtain passing Jalen Ramsey in terms of best cornerbacks in the league. Ramsey is a superstar, and there was a time when he was probably the best cornerback in the league every year. He is still really good, but now Surtain is better.

Surtain has the ability to lock down the best receiver on the other team. The only guy he didn't do that against last year was Davante Adams, who is the best receiver in the league. He had a few other games that definitely could have been better, but overall he played like a superstar.

However, being a superstar also means that you are a recognizable player. The way he plays, and the fact that he is only getting better, will submit him into that superstar tier in no time.
