The Denver Broncos still need help in their running back room; that's no secret. If they didn't, they wouldn't be going after Dalvin Cook. However, their running back room needs help because of the injury to Javonte Williams that he suffered last year. He is still rehabbing and should be ready by Week 1.
Samje Perine is a good running back. He is an even better backup running back, which is likely what he will do when Williams is back fully healthy.
Williams is a very good running back. In fact, while sharing snaps with Melvin Gordon in 2021 and only starting one game all season, he still was just short of 1,000 rushing yards. Yet, for some reason, he is being disrespected.
Pro Football Network made a list of the best running backs in the league, and Williams was just as far down the list as you can go at No. 29.
Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos Javonte Williams split carries with Melvin Gordon III during his rookie season, then tore his ACL and LCL in Week 4 of the 2022 campaign. Thus, his ranking is more of a projection than anything. Williams, strong enough to squat 600 pounds in college, garnered nearly 1,500 scrimmage yards in his final collegiate season. If and when he's healthy, he'll be an intriguing addition to Sean Payton's new Broncos offense. – Pro Football Network
If he's intriguing, why is he 29th? I get he suffered some pretty gruesome injuries, but at the same time, they are injuries that players come back from all the time and sometimes have even better seasons afterward.
This offense will be predicated on the run game. Sean Payton will run plenty of 21 personnel with two running backs. He loves to run the ball and set up the deep pass off of play action. That will fit Williams even better than what he did in 2021. This will only give him more reason to return and prove doubters wrong.
