If last year's drama wasn't enough, the new head coach for the Denver Broncos, Sean Payton, made sure to bring some into this new 2023 season. His latest comments have been everywhere and should be based on what he is saying.

From calling out other coaches, saying the people who dealt with Russell Wilson last year had dirty hands, or even having Aaron Rodgers call out Payton, there has never been a dull moment so far this offseason.

However, underneath all of that, Payton said something that has been missed, and it's actually very important.

"Listen, I'm not afraid of the expectation," Payton said to reporters. "I've talked with several people about being used to contending for the postseason. You don't take it for granted, but that mindset needs to be present here. Yeah. I see this as a team that has that ability. It's our job to bring that out of them."

The Super Bowl-winning head coach thinks this team can do some special things. Sure, he has been doing his own thing with the trash talk and whatever else you would like to call it, but the fact he thinks this team can compete says a lot.

This team didn't compete last year, and he was right; it was one of the worst coaching experiences in NFL history. However, he is confident enough that he can turn it around.

When it comes to a job as big as this one, you want to hear the new head coach say that. You never want to hear him say he doesn't believe the team can win.

Even more, you can tell Payton cares. He cares about winning, and he cares about his guys.

"The guys and I said it to them last night, you deserve the best teaching in the world, and we're going to give it to you," Payton added. "They really do. They're the best players in the world, and they deserve a chance. Now it's not going to be easy."

This year will be extremely different in that the Broncos will be a team that will compete every game. They may not make the playoffs, but you better believe that Payton will instill a culture where they think they can win every game against any opponent.

This team didn't have that mindset and culture last season. There were times when the body language told the whole story. It wasn't very good, and Payton's job is to make sure that it doesn't repeat itself.

So, yes, while what he is doing, going to the media and being very public and unfiltered, is annoying, he is also doing other things that may be getting glossed over.

"I'm going to be pissed off if this is not a playoff team."

That is the mindset he is bringing.

Broncos coach Sean Payton blasts Jets’ coach and culture

There is a certain level of respect coaches have amongst their peers. Just because someone didn’t respond to a certain style of coaching, doesn’t mean that the coach is at fault. It simply didn’t work. Coaches don’t talk trash about other coaches. Unless you are Sean Payton. Sean Payton took over the Denver Broncos about […]
