When the Denver Broncos were up big on the Indianapolis Colts after almost being down big but were saved by an errant mistake by Johnathon Taylor, it was clear that this team has what it takes to come back from any adversity they have. They battled back after a bad start, and by the end of the game, looked unstoppable, especially on defense.
It helps when you have all the right pieces, as they do. They have the coaching staff, and they especially have the players. When you have players on the defensive side of the ball like they do in Nik Bonitto, who had another pick-six, and Patrick Surtain, you are going to be a team that can play and hang with anyone.
But when you make decisions that you probably shouldn't that put those players in bad situations that could cause you to lose them, you won't be a team that can hang with anyone. Without a guy like Surtain, this defense has some big holes in the secondary.
After injuring his ankle in the game, Surtain limped off of the field. The Broncos were up big in the game, and they put him back out there for some odd reason.
“Anything we do relative to a player’s injury is always if the medical staff feels like he can go back in and he’s healthy enough," Head coach Sean Payton said. "There is never any, ‘Well we don’t need him now.’ It is just strictly, is he healthy enough to play? If he’s not, he won’t. If he is, he will play. I think that is the only way you can approach things like that.”
It was a stupid decision. But, at the same time, I understand why Payton did it and what he meant. These guys are competitors, and getting them off of the field isn't easy. But, you have to know that in a meaningless situation like that, injuries happen all of the time.
Fortunately for the Broncos, Surtain says he is doing fine and was actually a full participant on the injury report for Monday.
Denver Broncos fans can rejoice after Pat Surtain gives an update on his ankle injury vs. Colts
The Broncos love to hear that.
