The Denver Broncos seem like they are on their way to being what we originally thought they would be last season. Remember last season when we all thought the Broncos were now contenders or at least a playoff team and maybe a threat to win the AFC West?

Yeah, I do too. Remember when none of that actually happened and the Broncos finished as the fifth-worst team in terms of record in the league?

Now though, things feel different. They have a Super Bowl-winning coach who seems to be somewhat of a quarterback whisperer. Oh, and he put together a pretty good staff. He was even able to bring one of the coaches out of retirement.

Mike Westhoff, the Broncos' new assistant head coach, was retired before this season after coaching in some way for 32 years. He let everyone know recently that Payton was the only person who could get him to unretire.

“I have tremendous respect for him,” Mike Westhoff said during the Zach Gelb Show. "He’s the best on-the-field teacher I ever saw in my 32-year career.”

If Payton is making random coaches believe that much, then I think it's time we all start believing in the process. Payton seems to know what he's doing, and the staff he has put together seems like they know as well. Oh, and they trust in him, so we should too.

This season will be interesting, and I can't wait to see what happens.
