The injury bug looks to be hitting the team, once again.

The Denver Broncos were one of the most injured teams last season, adding to their abysmal output on the football field. The injury bug hit the organization hard, and it appears it's continuing into this season.

Not only are two of the more high-profile rookies injured, but one of the biggest additions to the offense is now struggling with injuries as well. Payton opened up to the media about the rather concerning occurrence.

LB Drew Sanders and WR Marvin Mims Jr. were on the sideline, battling with injuries during the Thursday practice. Both players have big shoes to fill and the fanbase is hoping they have what it takes to compete early and often. Having two of the premiere rookies down and out is a quick way to make the Broncos faithful nervous.

To add further insult to injury, running back Samaje Perrine is also dealing with a nagging thumb injury. Payton was quick to play damage control with the media.

When speaking on the rookie's injuries, Payton was direct, "I think they’re both real sharp mentally," Payton continued, "We have real good early glimpses of them, and they’re quickly healing.”

Luckily for Sanders and Mims, the mandatory minicamp has now concluded and now begins the six-week summer leading up to training camp. While the injuries are a concern, the players will have plenty of time to heal up before camp begins.

Still, Broncos faithful know how quickly last season was derailed due to injuries, here's hoping the front office has spent quality investments into strength and conditioning to do their best to avoid another catastrophic string of injuries.

For now, we wait.
