The Denver Broncos brought in Sean Payton to change the status quo of the organization. Fans understood almost immediately that things would be different with him in town.
Almost immediately, Payton began making sweeping changes across the organization. Most of which, at first, revolved around his QB Russell Wilson to get him locked in for the season.
Payton has brought in former coaches, and former players, banned bucket hats, and is ultimately doing all he can to try and bring back the winning ways that the Broncos fans know and deserve.
Just days after their first win of the season, Payton has made yet another move that's taking the NFL by surprise. It's not secret that the defense has been less-than-ideal this season, ranking near or at the bottom of the barrel in almost every measurable category. With that, Payton wanted to act, and that's exactly what he did.
Adam Schefter broke the news that the Denver Broncos would be releasing LB Randy Gregory as they look to focus on their young core of players. Gregory hasn't quite lived up to the expectations the team had for him since his arrival.
During his tenure with the Denver Broncos, Gregory has played in just 10 games with six games started. In those games, Gregory has only managed to get 3 sacks and 21 combined tackles with two forced fumbles.
More details have emerged of Gregory's departure. It seems as though the veteran had asked to be released after seeing his playing time dwindle, as Mike Klis from 9News reported. Payton slept on it, before ultimately making the decision to release the veteran.
The team had signed Gregory last offseason to a massive $70M contract in which the veteran only wound up playing 10 games for Denver. Not what anyone had anticipated when the team had signed him.
Gregory now hits the open market and Payton has let his locker room know that no spot is given on this roster, it's earned. While the team may have only just won their first game, Payton is doing all he can to bring this team back to their winning ways.
