The Denver Broncos have a veteran on their team who has the opportunity to make his first-ever Pro Bowl in 2023.
The Broncos aren't expected to be a Super Bowl contender in 2023, but they are expected to be an improved team under new head coach Sean Payton. Something that would help with that milestone is the improvements of key players.
This offseason saw the Broncos lose a few players in free agency. One of those guys was standout defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones, who is now on the Seattle Seahawks, ironically. The Broncos didn't want to pay him what Jones wanted and instead ended up signing Zach Allen.
But that has opened up something potentially huge for another Broncos player. Now, D.J. Jones could make his first-ever Pro Bowl.
Jones is entering his seventh season after spending five seasons in San Francisco with the 49ers and last season in Denver. He played next to Dre'Mont Jones and often times split snaps with Mike Purcell. Dre'Mont played 715 total snaps, Purcell 529, and Jones 558.
Now Jones will have the opportunity to step into the role Dre'Mont Jones had just a year ago. This is somewhat of a fresh start for him in terms of showing that he can be a guy in that full-time starter role.
Sure, the Zach Allen signing might put him right back in the same position, but if he can show that he is significantly better than Purcell to Vane Joseph, the new defensive coordinator, he has a chance to be in the spotlight every week.
The Pro Bowl is a fan-voted achievement, and if Jones can show out, we know that Broncos country is one that will 100% have Jones back in voting for the Pro Bowl.
With Dre'Mont Jones gone, D.J. Jones will now have an opportunity at a fresh start with a new defensive coordinator, have more eyes on him without his former counterpart there, and has a fan base that will have his back. All of that is enough to make me say if there is anyone who hasn't made a Pro Bowl that will, I'd put money on D.J. Jones.
