Denver Broncos defensive back Justin Simmons, a former Pro-Bowler, made a comment on Sunday that he should be praised for.
But it's a shame he even had to say it.
After the Broncos' heartbreaking 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Simmons told reporters that it was unacceptable that Denver gave up a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
I applaud Simmons for his accountability, but the Broncos' defense isn't the problem.
In fact, if Denver's offense was just mediocre, we'd be talking about this Broncos defense as being one of the all-time greats in the NFL.
But because the offense has been awful — Sunday's 10-9 loss to Baltimore was the sixth time this season that Denver has allowed 19 points or less and still lost — the Broncos' defense hasn't received the proper amount of credit on a national level.
Simmons showed a lot of character by taking responsibility for the loss, but it's a shame he had to do it. No one from the Broncos' defense should take a single ounce of blame for the loss to the Ravens. Nor should they take the blame for Denver's 3-9 record. This is all on the offense.
