Broncos teammates won't let depth chart shakeup become a distraction

In order to survive in this league as a team, you have to be able to run the ball. You need to be multidimensional and you have to be unpredictable. The Denver Broncos fit this mold, as they have a dynamic running game that features two running backs.
Earlier this preseason Melvin Gordon, the starting running back for 16 games last season, shared his thoughts on the situation with him and Javonte Williams, the backup running back last season.
"To be honest, I think they kind of have a plan on what they want," Gordon told reporters on Wednesday, August 17, after being asked about the situation. "As far as the rotation goes, I really don't know. I think they want Javonte to probably be the guy. But we do rotate. He'll take the first series, and then the second series with the ones, I'll take. Sometimes we switch, but, I don't really know how they will do it."
Williams is set to become the starter this year because of how he played last season. Both running backs finished with just over 900 rushing yards, but both finished with exactly 203 attempts.
That is going to change in 2022, however, with Williams leading the way. And based off what Willams recently said, there is no post-promotion strife between the two.
"Off the field, me and Mel [Melvin Gordon] are real good friends. we hang out, we do everything. Really just how to be a pro off the field, he really helped me learn how to manage my time," Williams told reporters Monday when asked about how Gordon has helped him.
Gordon is a two-time Pro Bowler but is also 29-years-old, and we know about the shelf life of running backs. Williams was a rookie last year and is just 22-years-old. Both are still very good, but if there was any doubt about the guy you would rather have, I think it's the one with less miles on the tires.
I think the Broncos think the same thing, and I think Gordon knows that, too.
When a guy loses his starting spot to a younger guy, that player can often times get disgruntled, and just flat out not be happy. From what it seems, Gordon has done the exact opposite, which is good because that would only hurt the chemistry.
These two have a good relationship, which is healthy when you have two backs that will be sharing snaps. Williams will likely get the start, based on what we have heard, but that doesn't mean Gordon won't play.
As a fan, you should definitely not be worried about the running back room and any rifts they may have. It seems as if everyone is on board to do whatever it takes to win, and that should make everyone excited for this season.
