The Denver Broncos roster in 2022 is a lot better than I think anyone would have expected. The team has good players at nearly every position and there aren't too many areas that have major deficiencies.

On Tuesday, the Broncos must cut their roster down from 80 players to 53. It will be hard for them because of how much talent they have on the team, but it has to be done.

With that roster cutdown period coming, people are going to try and play the best football they ever have played on Saturday against the Vikings. There is one position battle that could turn into a roster spot battle as well.

Saturday vs. Vikings will determine the fate of two specific players

The Broncos' position battle at the quarterback spot could be a battle for the last roster spot on Saturday against the Vikings, and here is why.

With how the roster is constructed this season, the Broncos may not have room for a third quarterback spot. Now, they will have a guy on the practice squad, though.

While I'm in no shape or form confirming that this is what will happen, it just makes all the sense in the world.

We know how much the Broncos value certain positions. Some of those this season are the defensive backs, wide receivers, and edge rushers. They also likely won't keep three quarterbacks because Wilson doesn't ever really get hurt. Last year was the first time he missed any amount of time, and he only missed three games with a finger injury.

This season, they will likely keep seven receivers. Most teams keep five or six. They will likely keep seven. Jeudy, Sutton, Hamler, Hinton, Washington, Johnson, and my guess would be Virgil on the last one.

The Broncos will also likely keep 11 defensive backs. Simmons, Jackson, Surtain, Darby, Williams, Locke, Sterns, Ojemudia, Mathis, Bassey, and the last spot could go to Turner-Yell.

As for the defensive end position, the Broncos could keep Dre'Mont Jones, Agim, Henningsen, Williams, Uwazurike, and Harris.

That most likely means that there will be no room for a third quarterback.

We know that the first game was dominated by Josh Johnson. However, last game against the Buffalo Bills, Brett Rypien was putting on a show of his own.

Rypien will get the start for this third game and will play the first half. Johnson will play the second half. This Saturday will be the game that likely decides who gets the backup job, and maybe decides who gets the roster spot.
