Last season, the Denver Broncos defense was terrible. They gave up 70 points to the Miami Dolphins and had a defensive line that couldn't stop the run or get to the passer as well as they would like.

They need a quarterback out of this upcoming draft but could easily go the alternative route and pick the best available player. When they go on the clock at pick No. 12, they could be looking at an explosive egde rusher in Jared Verse from Florida State

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Broncos have a top 30 visit set up with Verse.

Here are some of Verse's strengths and weaknesses:

STRENGTHS

  • Solid, compact build
  • Deadly speed-to-power. Uses hesitation to get tackles off-balance & launces into a bull-rush
  • Uses violent strikes beat the outside hand & win the edge
  • Outstanding hand pop to dislodge blocks on first contact
  • Swims through multiple layers of blocks with eyes on the football
  • Rare 1st step explosiveness
  • Relentless leg-drive helps him gain power
  • Can power through the outside shoulder to create a short corner
  • Has the tackling range to chase down screens & protect the edge

WEAKNESSES

  • Lacks bend to turn against outside hand resistance. Needs to chop the hand cleanly to flatten his angle
  • Late-bloomer, will turn 24 his rookie year
  • Inside counter isn't as fluid as his other moves
  • Doesn't have exceptional length. Needs to be the first one to establish contact
  • Gets stuck when blockers land an inside punch
  • Misses too many tackles
  • Disruptive, but unreliable run defender

If the Broncos cannot get a QB they like, they should definitely target Verse.
