The Arizona Cardinals don't play the Denver Broncos often. Actually, they have only played each other 11 times ever and haven't faced off since 2018, and the last two times they did play, the Broncos blew them out.

A few weeks ago, the assumption was that the Broncos would be planning to stop Kyler Murray, who is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. Obviously, now we know he is out for the season, and won't be in Denver come Sunday.

But their backup quarterback and veteran Colt McCoy had some high praise for the Broncos and their elite 2022 defense.

"They’re one of the top defenses in the league. I think they’re number two overall," McCoy said. "Very good at stopping the run. Their secondary, they just play extremely well together. (Broncos CB Patrick) Surtain (II) is really good on the outside. (Broncos S) Justin Simmons kind of runs the whole show and there’s not a whole lot of spots in the defense."

As far as I'm concerned, the Broncos' secondary is one of the better secondaries in the league. Of course, they have had their fair share of struggles this season, but most of those came when Simmons was out.

Surtain has been a top-three cornerback in the league, even after struggling against Davante Adams, who is a top-three receiver in the league. They do play extremely together and I think we could see them make some big plays on Sunday.

Let's also not forget to mention the fact that rookie cornerback Demari Mathis has been starting to come along. He had a very good game last week against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"They’re very solid, very sound and very well coached, so a lot of these walkthroughs to me are just going to be hammering down details, spacing and being where we’re supposed to be," McCoy added.

I don't know about the well-coached part, but I'll take all of the other praise.

Denver is truly one of the more underrated defenses in the league while still being one of the best. But, they don't get the recognition they deserve because the coaching and offense stink so badly. It feels good to hear McCoy give them the praise they deserve.
