The Denver Broncos received some very positive news just before the start of NFL free agency
The Denver Broncos could be in store for a huge offseason.
It’s no secret that the Denver Broncos are looking to add a playmaker or two to their roster this offseason.
Denver needs to get some help for quarterback Bo Nix after finishing with the No. 14 scoring offense in the NFL last season.
One player that’s been connected to Denver this offseason is Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, the MVP of Super Bowl LXI.
“While J.K. Dobbins — also a free agent this spring — performed well while leading the Broncos’ backfield when healthy, a player like Walker could take it to the next level,” wrote PFF’s Mason Cameron in February. “His 93.9 PFF rushing grade since entering the NFL in 2022 ranks second, behind only Derrick Henry…What makes Walker such a good fit in Payton’s offense is his ability to perform no matter the scheme. Over his four NFL seasons, Walker has produced a 90.0-plus PFF rushing grade in both gap and zone concepts.”
Kenneth Walker is officially set to hit free agency
Walker would undoubtedly be a great fit for the Broncos, but there’s been concern that Seattle may choose to place the franchise tag on the star running back.
That concern, however, was erased on Tuesday when news broke that Seattle is not planning to place the franchise tag on Walker.
As a result, Walker is officially set to hit free agency when the new league year begins later this month.
There will be plenty of competition to sign Walker, but it’s hard to imagine that Denver won’t be one of his top options. Walker just experienced winning a Super Bowl. And once a player has been on that stage, most make it a mission to return — it’s addicting.
Denver should be one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2026, so they should be an attractive option for Walker (it doesn’t hurt that Sean Payton’s had quite a bit of success with running backs in his offense, too).
The Seahawks’ decision to not place the franchise tag on Walker doesn’t mean the running back is destined to land in Denver, but it means the Broncos will at least have a shot at landing the Super Bowl MVP.
