‘Good News’ – Broncos’ Sean Payton wastes no time on All-Pro’s injury status
We can all breathe a sigh of relief for now.
The Denver Broncos have their initial roster set and sky-high expectations heading into the 2025 NFL season. A big part of that is riding on the shoulders of quarterback Bo Nix, who is looking to take that important next step heading into his second NFL season. With that, Nix will be as successful as his weapons will allow, and it was reported that one of his top weapons, Marvin Mims Jr., left practice on Wednesday to be evaluated for a groin injury and wasn’t available to the team for practice on Thursday. Head coach Sean Payton wants everyone to take a breath and says he should be back soon.
“Good news,” Payton said Thursday. “He’ll be back at practice. We have a bonus practice Monday, and he’ll be at work Monday. So, we’re fortunate.”
Marvin, take a bow
Mims Jr., much like Nix, is also looking to take advantage of another year in the league. The talented receiver was a second-round selection from the Broncos in the 2023 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he started seven games, hauling in 22 catches for 377 yards and a touchdown. Mims Jr. earned second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for his work in the return game, finishing his season with 312 yards on 19 punt returns and 397 yards on 15 kick returns for one touchdown.
During his 2024 campaign, Mims Jr. finished with 39 receptions for 503 yards and six touchdowns while only starting in two games. He led the league at 15.7 yards per punt return, with 26 returns for 408 yards. As a kick returner, he had 194 yards on seven returns with no touchdowns. Mims Jr. earned first-team All-Pro honors and another Pro Bowl nod in his second season in the league. Outside of being a weapon for Nix, he’s a game-changer as a return man. A crowded receiving room is no more, as Mims Jr. is expected to take a larger role in the offense in the 2025 NFL season.
Getting back a dynamic weapon who is going to be one of the top options for a team that has all the pieces to make a run — it’s indeed ‘good news.’
