The Denver Broncos' front office made a rough mistake last off-season.
Hiring Nathaniel Hackett was clearly not the correct move. At the very least, they realized that quickly. He's out as the Broncos head coach. So, where do they look now?
Only time will tell, and plenty of candidates will get a shot at snagging the job. The roster and draft compensation leave a bit to be desired for the next coach, but Broncos ownership does have an important upper hand on other franchises that will be looking for a new HC.
Their ownership group can outbid any other team for a head coach.
The ownership group for the Broncos is comprised of Rob Walton, Greg Penner, and Carrie Walton-Penner. They have other limited partners as well.
At the top, Walton is the wealthiest owner in the NFL, according to Forbes.
Walton’s net worth is projected to be $59 billion.
The Seattle Seahawks' brain trust of ownership is the second-highest net worth in the league. They sit at just over $20 billion. That's quite the gap.
Accordingly, the ownership of the Broncos have no excuse to not get their main target in their search during this off-season. No other team can compare to the contract that they can hand out to a candidate if they want to do so.
This will be a make or break decision for many people involved for the Broncos. Denver must nail their next hire.
