The Denver Broncos are getting their first real taste of action with Sean Payton running the show as they are taking on the Las Vegas Raiders at home to open the season.

All eyes are going to be on Payton and Russell Wilson to see if there's a major shift from the product that was on the field last season, compared to this year. Did Payton do enough to bring the championship ways back to Denver? We're about to find out.

Let's dive into how to watch the game and our full preview of the upcoming matchup.

Will the offensive line improvements help Wilson?

The front office went swinging during the offseason by beefing up the protection up front in Ben Powers and Mike McGlinchey. Were the additions enough to give Wilson time to dissect the defense? Or will injuries derail the unit once again?

Last year, the team was snakebitten across the board. Season-ending injuries upon season-ending injuries. As a result, not solely because of the offensive line, Wilson wound up having one of the worst statistical seasons in his career.

If the line can hold up, any Sunday, the Broncos faithful should like Wilson and the offense's chances.

Are there enough weapons for Wilson to succeed?

The team lost Tim Patrick before the season even began with yet another unfortunate season-ending injury. Then, to add insult to injury, there was a scary instance in which Jerry Jeudy needed to be carted off the field during a joint practice.

With two of Wilson's weapons out, one for the season and another for an extended period of time, are there enough weapons across the board for him and the team to be successful?

It'll be up to players like Lil' Jordan Humphrey, Phillip Dorsett, Brandon Johnson, and rookie Marvin Mims Jr. to step up and show the league that they are ready to compete at the highest level.

3 People to watch

  • QB Russell Wilson: Wilson has a long way to go to win back over the hearts of fans, and this would be the perfect opportunity to start that. Wilson has a chance to start the year on the right foot and silence some critics. Let's see if he rises to the challenge and is more reminiscent of his Seahwaks days than last season as a Bronco.
  • RB Jaleel McLaughlin: If you've read an article by me, you know how much of a fan I am of McLaughlin. The undrafted rookie has earned substantial playing time on this roster and he's earned just that. We previously wrote about the team's decision to give him some much-deserved reps in the upcoming contest.
  • HC Sean Payton: Not a player, but a crucial part of the team. This is Payton's first regular season game as a head coach of the Denver Broncos and the team's success rests largely on his shoulders. Let's see what type of game he's going to call as he looks to take on a division rival to open the season.
