Key free agent that signed elsewhere confirms suspicion about interest from Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos haven’t been very aggressive during the first few days of NFL free agency.
Before NFL free agency got underway earlier this week, there were several big names connected to the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos, however, have not signed any of those big names to this point in free agency. Denver, in fact, hasn’t signed anyone in free agency who wasn’t already in the organization.
One of the popular names that was connected to the Broncos was running back Travis Etienne, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Etienne, however, quickly agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Saints this week, leaving some fans to wonder if the Broncos ever showed serious interest in the Louisiana native.
Travis Etienne confirms the Broncos showed interest
Etienne met with reporters in Jacksonville on Friday and he confirmed that Denver was one of the teams that showed the most interest in him before he signed with New Orleans.
He also mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs as a team that showed interest.
Etienne is from Louisiana, so it makes sense that he chose the Saints over the rest of the teams showing interest (a four-year deal worth $52 million also helped make the decision easy).
The Chiefs ended up signing running back Kenneth Walker III while the Broncos chose to re-sign running back J.K. Dobbins, who is an elite player when healthy (but he’s had trouble staying healthy).
Contrary to what some fans think, the Broncos aren’t asleep at the wheel — they just haven’t found a free agent deal they feel is worth strongly pursuing.
