The Denver Broncos made a huge move on Wednesday by signing tight end Evan Engram to a two-year deal.

Engram, 6-foot-3/240 lbs from Powder Springs, GA, is a former Ole Miss standout who was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

The former Ole Miss tight end was a two-time First-Team All-SEC player for the Rebels. Engram has reached two Pro Bowls since entering the league in the 2017.

Engram spent the first five seasons of his career with the New York Giants. He spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Adding some offensive weapons for quarterback Bo Nix was arguably the most important item on Denver's to-do list this offseason. Landing Engram gives Broncos head coach Sean Payton a versatile weapon in the passing game that can be used to create mismatches — something that Payton's had great success doing in the past.

That's a big reason why CBS Sports is a huge fan of Denver's decision to sign Engram.

CBS Sports, in fact, named the Broncos as one of the big winners of day three of NFL free agency.

From CBS Sports: Winner: Denver Broncos and Evan Engram

The Denver Broncos filled a massive need on the first day of the new league year, reaching a two-year deal with veteran tight end Evan Engram. The production from the tight end position for Denver last season was nonexistent, and now it injects a player who has 100-catch upside into the offense. This is also great for Engram as he is poised to take over a central role within Sean Payton's offense, which he called the "joker." In the past, that's been manned by the likes of Jimmy Graham and Jeremy Shockey. That sets up what could be a career year for the 30-year-old.

Engram's best season in the NFL came in 2023 when he caught a career high 114 passes for 963 yards and four touchdowns while playing in all 17 games for the Jaguars.

The former first round draft pick battled injuries in 2024 — missing eight games due to a hamstring injury and a torn labrum — but if he's healthy in 2025, he could immediately become one of the most dangerous tight ends in the NFL.

Engram has always been a productive player in the NFL. He could see a career high in production, however, now that he'll be playing in Payton's offense.
