An NFL executive revealed to ESPN this week which player they believe the Denver Broncos are targeting in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The unnamed executive told ESPN that North Carolina Tar Heels running back Omarion Hampton could be the player that Denver targets with the No. 20 overall selection.
"I think [Hampton is] the best back, and I think that's who Denver is targeting," said the executive.
ESPN's Peter Schrager, for what it's worth, has Hampton falling to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 24 overall in his latest mock draft (Schrager has the Broncos drafting Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka at No. 20 overall).
It's no secret that the Broncos are looking to add a legitimate playmaker to the roster in this year's draft. And running back, specifically, is a big position of need for Denver.
Hampton, who rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns while catching 38 passes for 373 yards and two touchdowns last season, is certainly a player that would be a good fit in Sean Payton's offense. If he's available at No. 20 overall, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Denver pull the trigger.
The Broncos, however, likely won't be trading up to select a running back in the first round.
"Don't expect the same kind of fireworks from the Broncos, one year after they took Bo Nix," wrote The Athletic's Dianna Russini on Wednesday. "Sean Payton does fall in love with players, but the sense I get right now is that Denver is comfortable with sticking at pick No. 20 and selecting the player they want – or trading back. I heard they love some of the running backs, but not enough to move up."
The 2025 NFL Draft is set to get underway on Thursday night (April 24) at 8:00 PM ET.
