The Denver Broncos entered the 2022 season with a lot of hype.

Denver hired Nathaniel Hackett, one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite assistant coaches, to lead the franchise last season. They then traded for nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson, a former Super Bowl champion.

And it was a disaster. The Broncos went 5-12 while averaging just 16.9 points per game (last in the NFL). Hackett was fired before the end of the season.

Denver hired Sean Payton this offseason to replace Hackett. The former New Orleans Saints head coach, who owns a Super Bowl ring of his own, is expected to bring some much-needed change to the Broncos' locker room (Wilson can say goodbye to his personal office).

The hiring of Payton plus some key additions led to ESPN NFL front office insider Mike Tannebaum saying this week that he believes Denver's had the best offseason so far.

From ESPN: When you factor in the hiring of coach Sean Payton and the signings of guard Ben Powers and offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, this sets up the best-case scenario for any hope of success for quarterback Russell Wilson. Having offensive tackle Garett Bolles and running back Javonte Williams return from injury will also go a long way.

I don't think there's any doubt that Denver is going to be a better team in 2023. But unfortunately for them, they still play in the AFC West. And the Kansas City Chiefs are still the kings of the division until someone unseats them. The Los Angeles Chargers will be a solid team again, too (sorry Las Vegas Raiders, not really sure what you expect from you just yet).

Denver has a chance to make some noise in 2023. But they'll have to find a way to get past Patrick Mahomes and company if they're going to make a deep playoff run.
