The Denver Broncos are still on the hunt for their next head coach.
Reports surfaced today that said that San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is no longer a candidate for the job. He turned down Denver, and all indications are pointing to Houston as his next stop.
The Texans have him as their top target to become their next head coach. So, that has added even more suspense to the situation for the Broncos.
Are Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh still in the mix? Could Jim Caldwell be the best fit? What about a young option like Ejiro Evero?
There is so much uncertainly surrounding Denver at the moment. That being said, NFL insider Adam Schefter provided one important update today.
Schefter believes that Harbaugh is no longer in the running to be the next HC of the Broncos.
Schefter is a notable source for this report, too. He's a trusted insider around the league – of course.
Additionally, he attended Michigan University. That's where Harbaugh currently coaches. Both Harbaugh and the school have doubled down on his decision to stay there as the HC during this off-season.
Schefter probably wouldn't want to get the report wrong concerning his alma mater.
If Harbaugh is out, it is another swing and a miss for the front office in Denver.
It is widely believed that Harbaugh and Ryans were two of the targets that they made the hardest push for, and neither look to be working out.
The suspense only continues to build as time goes by for the Broncos.
More candidates could emerge over the next few days, but it seems like the Broncos need to figure out this situation sooner rather than later. They don't want to be last to the tea party when it comes to hiring the top candidates on the market.
