The Denver Broncos didn't quite make a full 360 on a recent roster decision, but they definitely made a 180, one that will be beneficial and hurtful in a few different ways.

Sean Payton sent a strong locker room message this past week with a decision to cut veteran OLB Randy Gregory, but they didn't actually go through with it. Instead, they made the shocking decision to trade Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers.

According to multiple reports, Denver will receive a 2024 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Gregory and a 2024 seventh-round pick. At face value, it seems like a better deal than cutting Gregory outright, but the Broncos had to sweeten the pot for San Francisco. They'll be eating most of the remaining $10 million in the 2023 salary that Gregory was due against the salary cap. The 49ers, however, will pick up the remainder of Gregory's five-year, $70 million deal, none of which is guaranteed after 2023.

Overall, Denver gets an opportunity to play some of their younger pass rushers and a very good San Francisco team adds to an already deep defensive line group with minimal long-term investment if they so choose.
