The Denver Broncos are one of the worst teams in the league, but there is one thing stopping them from being the worst team in the league.
The Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs play each other twice a year, every year. And, while the Chiefs have beaten the Broncos 13 straight times, these two teams still have a ton of respect for each other and what their franchises have done, even if this is one of the biggest rivalries in football.
So, the Chiefs are still going to prepare for the Broncos good, even if they aren't great because that divisional rivalry respect is there.
In fact, one Chiefs Pro Bowler shined some light on something for the Broncos as they are going through a dark time.
“Yeah, I think the challenge is that they're a good football team. Their defense is special. They have a good scheme," Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said of the Broncos' defense.
Which, I don't know about the good team part, but I would agree that the defense is good. This defense has been one of the best in the league, it just isn't on display like it should be.
Then, you factor in that the offense doesn't allow the defense to stay off of the field for a while, and it makes even more sense. The defense can be elite though, and I think we all know that.
"They have good players," Mahomes continued. "When you play division opponents, you obviously know they've studied you all offseason, so you try to have a concept of what you do best, but at the same time, (you) throw in some wrinkles so that they can't be on top of your best plays. So for us, it’ll be a great challenge against a great defense to go out there and try to find a way to put up enough points to win.”
The Chiefs are one of the best teams in the league, again. If, and when, they beat the Broncos, it's because of the way they prepare for the Broncos as if they are a good team.
And, for Mahomes to say that about the Broncos should make fans feel good. Here's the thing, if a defense is good to a guy like Mahomes, then it's very, very good.
A lot of teams can never get the defense part right, and the Broncos have that part figured out. Yeah, the offense stinks, but it can get better. Mahomes is shining light on a dark year for the Broncos.
