The Denver Broncos got a statement win in Week 5 of the NFL season, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles after an exceptional fourth quarter from quarterback Bo Nix and the offense.

The undefeated Eagles are no more, as Denver walked into Philadelphia and stunned the NFL, pulling off the thrilling comeback victory. Head coach Sean Payton has long expressed that this team has what it takes to raise the Lombardi Trophy, and wins like this are exactly why.

The defense made life difficult for quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley. Denver did not have luck on its side entering the fourth quarter. Previous Broncos teams were 1-112 when trailing by 14+ entering the fourth quarter on the road. Now, they’re 2-112 after the comeback victory.

Bo Nix and the offense shine

Second-year quarterback Bo Nix put on his Superman cape in the fourth quarter to help lead his team to the victory. In two drives in the fourth quarter, Nix and the offense scored on a six-play, 72-yard drive and a 10-play, 64-yard drive. Running back J.K. Dobbins scored first, and Nix found tight end Evan Engram for the second score.

Payton was gutsy with his play-calling, electing to go for two late into the contest, which proved to be the difference-maker. Nix found receiver Troy Franklin for the two-point conversion to take the lead. After a few last-second losses, Denver wouldn’t be denied against a tough Philly team.

Nix finished his day going 24-for-39 with 242 yards and a touchdown, while adding three carries for 22 yards. Nix was efficient, not turning the ball over throughout the game.

Defense, take a bow

Denver’s defense, once again, demonstrated why it is one of the best units across the NFL. Cornerback Patrick Surtain II kept Eagles receiver A.J. Brown to five catches for 43 yards, and the defense stopped Barkley on the ground. Running against Denver wasn’t an option with the Broncos holding the Eagles to only 45 yards on the ground.

It wasn’t just their impact in stopping the run, as the defense made life miserable for Hurts in the pocket. Denver led the league in sacks in 2024 and looks poised to repeat once again.

Throughout the game, Denver brought down Hurts five times. Linebacker Nik Bonitto had 2.5 sacks, defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike had a sack, defensive end Zach Allen had half a sack, linebacker Alex Singleton had a sack, and cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian had a sack.

J.K. Dobbins was a man on a mission

Dobbins continued his impressive streak through the early stages of the 2025 season. While he didn’t surpass 100 yards on the ground in consecutive weeks, he found the end zone in the fourth quarter and was making people miss left and right.

The veteran running back finished his day with 20 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Dobbins added one catch for five yards. His counterpart, rookie running back RJ Harvey, finished with four carries for 12 yards, adding three catches for 18 yards. Denver finished the day with 29 carries for 130 yards on the ground.

It was a signature victory for Payton’s squad, one that will echo through the rest of the 2025 season.
