The Denver Broncos lost another close game that came down to the wire. In Week 3, the Los Angeles Chargers marched down the field in the fourth quarter and kicked a winning field goal as time expired — another gut punch for Broncos Country.

Self-inflicted wounds hurt the offense throughout, setting the team up in bad field position and hurting their chances for success.

While the loss stings, it wasn’t all bad from Denver’s Week 3 performance. Running back J.K. Dobbins put on a clinic against his former team and has been dominating through the early stages of the NFL season.

Immediately after the game, Dobbins wanted to make it clear that the loss doesn’t fall on the shoulders of quarterback Bo Nix; the talented signal-caller is the future, and Dobbins wants to make that clear. Zac Stevens, Denver Broncos beat reporter for DNVR Broncos, shared the interview on X.

“He didn’t miss no throws, he played a great game,” Dobbins said. “We got his back, I got his back, he’s a great quarterback. It’s a team game; we lost as a team. It’s not on him. It’s not on him. I gotta make more plays for him, and that’s it. He didn’t make no bad throws, it is what it is. We gotta make a play for him, even if it’s not a good-placed ball, gotta make the play, you know, that’s what it is.”

J.K. Dobbins’ revenge game against the Chargers

Dobbins put everything into perspective and wants the world to know that this team is as tight-knit as they come, and that they all back up their quarterback despite the loss.

For Dobbins, it was a revenge game since he spent the 2024 season with the Chargers. In his lone year in Los Angeles, he finished with 195 attempts for 905 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 32 receptions for 153 yards. Denver brought him in to be a difference-maker on offense, and that’s exactly what Dobbins has done through three weeks.

Speaking with Stevens, Dobbins shared that the Chargers’ game plan was to stop him, which his old teammates had told him before the game started.

“That’s my old team, those guys know me,” Dobbins said. “They came up to me and told me, ‘We wanted to stop you.’ That’s what happened in the first half, and we figured it out. We just gotta keep building on the run game and get better.”

While the Chargers stopped Dobbins in the first half, the talented running back started the second half with a bang. On the ground, in the first drive after the second half, it was all Dobbins. The three-play, 66-yard touchdown drive had a 41-yard run, a 6-yard run, and a 19-yard touchdown run all from Dobbins. He decimated the Chargers on that drive alone.

Dobbins finished his day with 11 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown in the performance. Had Denver won, the big point of conversation would have been his successful revenge game.

Dobbins is backing his quarterback and has been a star on the football field since joining Denver. Through three games, he has 41 carries for 222 yards and three touchdowns.

It’s not the start to the season the team wants, but it believes it has the pieces to turn things around and be successful in the long term.

Denver’s next matchup is against the Cincinnati Bengals on “Monday Night Football,” when the team will look to bounce back from another tough loss.
