Sean Payton hasn't been the Denver Broncos' head coach for long, but he's already generating plenty of excitement.

And that excitement continued this week at the site of Super Bowl LVII in Arizona.

Payton was a guest on "Up and Adams" on Thursday and he suggested that Denver could target one of the NFL's top free agents this offseason.

The new Denver head coach expressed his appreciation for Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs before adding "maybe we look at him".

Payton noted that he voted for Jacobs to be an All-Pro this season and then he praised the former Alabama running back for his "downhill physical running style".

"I'm glad he's a free agent," said Payton. "I encourage everyone to look at him, get him out of the [AFC] West. Maybe we look at him."

Unfortunately for Broncos fans, there's almost zero chance Jacobs lands in Denver this offseason.

If the Raiders aren't able to extend Jacobs this offseason, they'll place the franchise tag on him (that seems like the likely scenario). At that point, the only way Jacobs could land in Denver is if he's traded. And there's no way Las Vegas is going to trade him within the division.

Jacobs has said he wants to play for the Raiders long-term. And he even said on Thursday that he'd be ok with playing on the franchise tag in 2023 as long as Las Vegas added some more talent to the roster (Aaron Rodgers maybe?).

So unless the Raiders have a massive change of heart in the next few weeks, there's virtually no chance Jacobs is a free agent when the new league year begins in March.

Sorry Denver fans (and Sean Payton). It's extremely likely that Jacobs will be in the AFC West (with the Raiders) for at least one more season.
