The Denver Broncos mounted an epic comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter to lead them to victory in Week 5. It was the first victory in Philadelphia since 1986, when quarterback John Elway was throwing the ball for Denver.

Second-year quarterback Bo Nix erupted in the fourth quarter, helping lead the team to victory and come back from more than 14 points down. Head coach Sean Payton spoke to the media after the victory and pointed to what about Nix impressed him the most.

The talented quarterback finished his day going 24-for-39 with 242 yards and a touchdown.

“He’s a competitor,” Payton said. “There were a handful of plays in the first half that I know he’d want back. The delay of game was my fault, spitting it out. That all being said, you can feel his leadership when it matters, and you can feel the confidence with his teammates when it matters. He played exceptionally in the second half.”

Payton reflects on his childhood after the win vs. the Eagles

Payton got personal with the media after the game, talking about his childhood, which made the victory over the Eagles that much sweeter.

“But to get it here, I grew up here as a kid. My first NFL job was here . . . grew up on the Flyers, Eagles, 76ers, give you all the lineups,” Payton said. “There’s a lot of respect we have for this team, this coaching staff, this team we just played [ . . . ] this is a team that just won the Super Bowl, it was a good win.”

The head coach kept everything in perspective when talking about the victory. A powerful performance from his team, which showed plenty of fight in mounting the comeback. The team’s effort didn’t go unnoticed by Payton.

“It’s a good team,” Payton said. “The thing we did, when you play someone like that, you’re going to get punched, and it’s not going to be easy. But we kept fighting, and that’s what I was most encouraged about. The fight, the grit, you felt that momentum shifted, and when that happened, it’s pretty powerful.”

It was the kind of performance that showed why Payton’s confidence in his young quarterback hasn’t wavered. The Broncos didn’t just steal a win; they proved they can finish when it matters most.
