It was a party in Denver as the Broncos defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 of the NFL preseason 27-7. While the team was firing on all cylinders, head coach Sean Payton was blunt in his assessment of where the team needs to get better: avoiding penalties.

“The one area that has to get cleaned up is the penalties.”

Payton elaborated after the team combined for 11 penalties for 75 yards during the contest.

“More importantly, the pre-snap penalties.” He clarified, “Not the ones that are taking place during a play, but the ones that happen before we even snap the ball. We’ll get that cleaned up.”

Control what you can control. These mistakes are going to be ones that must be corrected when the regular season rolls around, and Payton knows it.

Payton thrilled after preseason win

Offense, defense, and special teams all contributed to the victory. Payton made sure to give the team their flowers before pointing out the penalties.

“Thought we did a lot of things well. I thought our energy, kinda how we started the game, was really in all three phases. There’s gonna be a lot of good things on tape we like.”

For the offense, it was the Jarrett Stidham and Troy Franklin show as the pair connected on two beautiful touchdowns. While it was just the preseason, the second-year receiver has been dominating in camp and looks ready to take that important leap in the offense.

On defense, Arizona couldn’t get anything going. Eight total first downs with only 135 yards of total offense and only seven total points must have Vance Joseph more than a little excited. Again, it’s preseason, but the depth Denver has across the board is invaluable.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was blunt himself with comments after the game, “We got outplayed tonight.” He continued, “It’s one thing to be technically sound in practice; it’s another thing to be technically sound in games.”

Broncos fans were the real MVPs of the contest, though. When the four-person parachute team known as Thunderstorm entered, the party began. It sounded like a regular-season contest as the team gave fans more than enough to celebrate throughout the contest. Payton has been saying how this team is capable of winning a Super Bowl, and the city is feeding off that energy.

While it was just the preseason, it made for a great day of football.

‘It wasn’t the most flashy’ – Peyton Manning’s daily driver near the end of his career was more soccer dad than NFL superstar

This probably won’t come as a surprise, but Hall of Famer Peyton Manning didn’t arrive to work in a flashy ride during his last couple of seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. Instead, the former Tennessee Vols quarterback drove a not-so-flashy Buick, thanks to his endorsement deal with the automobile company. Former Broncos […]
