The Denver Broncos are one of the hottest teams in football right now and among seven NFL teams still undefeated at home. Some Mile High magic against the New York Giants in the fourth quarter has the Broncos sitting atop the AFC West, all while giving fans one of the most exciting games of football this season.

In recent weeks, players have been more than a little vocal about the opposing teams. Ahead of the Giants matchup, edge defender Jonathon Cooper and fellow edge Nik Bonitto threw some shade at Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, along with the “delusional” fanbase, as Bonitto wrote.

Another week, more mic drop moments, and some bulletin board material for the Dallas Cowboys. Defensive end John Franklin-Meyers went viral for his comments ahead of the matchup.

“The Broncos are my team, if you ask me, the Broncos are America’s team. I don’t even know how that came about. Honestly, if that’s what it is, that’s what it is. You know, I think that everybody has their own opinions, so whatever.”

Denver’s defense has been elite in 2025

Franklin-Meyers is part of a stout Denver defense that leads the league in sacks, starting six games this season with three sacks, 11 combined tackles, and five quarterback hits. The defensive front, along with some premier edge rushers in Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto, has made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks.

For Bonitto and Cooper specifically, they have a chance to make some NFL history. If Cooper has two sacks against the Cowboys, he and Nik Bonitto will become just the sixth pair of teammates in league history to have more than eight sacks in the first eight games of the season. As Zac Stevens reported, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware accomplished that feat in 2014 for the Broncos.

Should Denver’s defense keep up this pace, the Cowboys might be the next team to feel the full weight of the Mile High pass rush. The Broncos have a bit of swagger and have turned it into substance. Right now, it looks like no one wants to play them in Denver.

At this rate, “America’s Team” might have to make room for “Mile High’s Team.”
