The New Orleans Saints have had inconsistency at quarterback in recent seasons. They thought that'd change with the addition of veteran QB Derek Carr this season. So far, that hasn't been the case.
How has Carr and company played compared to the rest of the NFC South?
- Buccaneers – Baker Mayfield: 2,143 yards, 14 TD/5 INT, 93.7 rating
- Saints – Carr/Winston/Hill: 2,526 yards, 13 TD/7 INT, 87.4 rating
- Falcons – Ridder/Heinicke: 2,238 yards, 9 TD, 7 INT, 84.1 rating
- Panthers – Young/Dalton: 1,921 yards, 10 TD, 7 INT, 78.1 rating
Carr has simply been too indecisive for New Orleans. He refuses to push the ball down the field when given the opportunity, and it's caused multiple injuries. Now, he is dealing with a shoulder issue and a concussion.
The Saints are simply too talented to continue having these problems. Compared to other teams in their division,. they may have the most impressive group of pass catchers. The offensive line has been good over the past 5-6 weeks. It's simply come down to QB play.
The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons both have more QB issues than the Saints do, but that's irrelevant. The Falcons are putting together a similar season to New Orleans so far, and Baker Mayfield has been the division's best QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In order for the Saints to hold onto the NFC South crown they hold currently, Carr and co. must play better.
