3 Super Bowl standouts the Detroit Lions should go after in free agency
The Lions could poach some players from the Super Bowl champions in March
The Super Bowl is over, and now we move on to basketball for a little while and hope the Detroit Pistons can go win it all.
Before we get to that, the Lions will be looking to sign some players in free agency. The Super Bowl had three guys the Lions should be looking into in March.
Seahawks edge Boye Mafe
Mafe had a solid game with two pressures and a solid regular season with 41 pressures and two sacks, as part of the Seahawks rotation. In Detroit, he could be a starter and still rotate with Al-Quadin Muhammad.
On top of getting pressure, the former second-round pick is also a strong run stopper, and that is something the Lions want out of their defensive line. They’ve usually been good at it, except this past year, when they struggled. Mafe can help get them back on track.
Seahawks safety Coby Bryant
We don’t know what the immediate future looks like for Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. That’s why adding Bryant could be a game-changer for the Lions. Bryant had his side of the field locked down all night and was never targeted.
That’s because he’s a ball hawk. During the season, he had four interceptions and took three of them to the house. But would he come to Detroit knowing there’s a chance he won’t be the full-time starter once everyone is healthy? I don’t know.
Patriots tackle Thayer Munford
I fully believe the Lions are looking for their next tackle in the draft, but that does not mean they shouldn’t have a veteran around who can play the swing tackle role. Munford has mostly been in that role in the NFL, and he’s done it well. He would be a great replacement for Dan Skipper.
