On Thursday our staff got together to list out a player that could surprisingly be cut before, during or after training camp for all 32 teams in the NFL. Now that this list is out there, we picked four guys that would best fit the Lions if they were to hit the open market. Here they are:

WR Juju Smith-Schuster

This is not the first time we’ve talked about this possibility. At one point when Brad Holmes was the director of college scouting with the Rams, he seemed to be all over Smith-Schuster when he was coming out of USC.

Here's Holmes chance to get him at a cheaper rate without having to make a trade to get it done. Smith-Schuster fits what the Lions are looking for when it comes to needing a big X type receiver that can go up and get the ball and has blazing speed to get away from defenders. He just never should have signed with the Patriots.

DT Siaka Ika

Ika was very high on my draft crush list last year. He’s still just 23-years-old and could potentially be available on the open market. It hasn’t worked out for him in Cleveland, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work out anywhere for him. He just needs the right situation, and the Lions might have it with new defensive line coach Terrell Williams.

It's definitely worth exploring if he indeed does hit the market. Honestly, this is one the Lions could even make a trade for. The strength and explosiveness is worth it.

S Andrew Wingard

The Lions might be set at safety with Brian Branch most likely heading back that way, but if they feel they want to bring in another guy for camp and Wingard is available, the fit is a good one.

The big perk is that he has a connection to the Lions coaching staff already. He spent the last two years working with new Lions defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend in Jacksonville.

WR Mack Hollins

We recently brought up Hollins as a potential trade target ahead of camp. He never should have signed with the Bills. Now it looks like they could move on from him before he ever suits up for them.  It won’t have much to do with his play, the Bills just went all in on receiver during the offseason.

Hollins brings the size and contested catch ability to the team, but he would be like another Josh Reynolds being that he's 30-years-old. Meaning that this could be a short-term thing.
