The offseason is in full effect for the Detroit Lions. Last week the Lions signed multiple players from their practice squad to futures/reserves contracts. There were seven guys that they did not sign to those deals. Per Justin Rogers of The Detroit News, those players are all now free agents as of Monday morning. Here is who is now a free agent.
- Zach Ertz: The Lions signed him right before the NFC Championship game and he never actually played a game for the Lions in 2023.
- Mohamhed Ibrahim: The undrafted rookie showed promise during the preseason and at camp. He even got to play in a regular season game against the Ravens. He unfortunately suffered a season ending injury in that game.
- David Blough: Yeah, that's right. Blough has been here the entire time as the Lions practice squad quarterback. At this point he may as well join the coaching staff.
- Julian Okwara: The former third round pick has been with the Lions for while now and it just wasn't working out. The Lions waived him at the end of the season before bringing him back on the practice squad. He's free to go wherever he wants now.
- Jason Cabinda: The Lions look to be parting ways with their fullback. They signed him to the active roster before waiving him the next day and then adding him to the practice squad. Cabinda was active for every game of the playoffs.
- Max Pircher: He was an offensive lineman from Germany that was part of the International Pathways program. He was never elevated.
- Michael Schofield: The veteran offensive lineman was on and off the Lions multiple times this season. He was elevated from the practice squad a couple times, but he never actually played a snap in Detroit.
Just becasue these players have hit free agency, that does not mean the Lions are done with them. There's a chance that they could look to bring anyone of these guys back anytime before the free agency period starts up on March 11th.
The pros and cons of the Lions bringing back Jonah Jackson
Free agency is near for the Detroit Lions. As I type this sentence, we're 35 days away from the NFL opening up the negotiating window for teams and the players agents on March 11th. Will Jonah Jackson make it to that day or will the Lions get a deal done with him before that? That's […]
