On Sunday, during the Detroit Lions game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf approached a Lions fan in the front row, pulled his blue wig down, and punched him in the face. The broadcast caught it happening.

Everyone wants to know what happened here, and now we have both sides of the story out. Let’s start with Metcalf. We will not be taking any sides on this story. This is just a presentation of the stories that both sides have laid out.

DK Mecalf’s side of the story

NFL Network’s Tom Pellisero reported that Metcalf has had a history with this exact fan, who the Detroit Free Press identified as Ryan Kennedy from Pickney, Michigan, and even reported him to security last year when Metcalf was in town playing for the Seahawks. In addition to that, former Bengals receiver Chad Johnson says Metcalf told him the fan was making racist, crude, and derogatory comments about Metcalf and his mother.

Ryan Kennedy’s side of the story

Kennedy says that this all stemmed from him calling Metcalf by his full name. These were his comments to the Detroit Free Press:

“What, my full name isn’t is DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf,” Kennedy said. “He doesn’t like his government name. I called him that and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I’m a little shocked. Like everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby.”

That is what we know at this time. At the time of this article, the NFL has not made a ruling on Metcalf, and the Lions have not made any public ruling on Kennedy.
