Detroit Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson made some waves on Friday when he made his first appearance at Lions practice since going under the knife. He was in street clothes, but it was great to see him there. He's not done making waves though. He's taking a drastic step soon. He is legally changing his name.

Gardner-Johnson won't be the first pro athlete to change his name and he won't be the last either. Ron Artest became Metta World Peace, Lloyd  B. Free changed his name to World B. Free and Chad Johnson changed his name to Chad Ochocinco before changing it back. There's also been a number of athletes that have changed their names for religious reasons. Like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Muhammed Ali. 

Gardener-Johnson won't be the first Detroit athlete to change his name. Pistons center Brian Williams changed his name to Bison Dele in the early 2000's. 

Good for Gardner-Johnson. Anyone should take whatever name they'd like if that's their own personal choice. Maybe I should actually be saying good for Ceedy Duce.
