Calvin Johnson believes the Lions should be in on the Tee Higgins market if the Bengals don't tag him

Everyone is looking at edge rushers and defensive players for the Detroit Lions, but there is a clear need on offense too. This team needs receiver help outside of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. The Lions need that WR3 that can go up and get the contested catches and be a problem in the end zone as well as stretch the field.
The Lions used to have the guy that was better at that than most receivers who have ever played the game. We're talking about Megatron of course. Calvin Johnson talked with Kay Adams on Up & Adams on Monday morning and the topic of the Lions needing a receiver came up.
Adams showed Johnson a list of the expected free agents and asked him to pick and Johnson picked Bengals receiver Tee Higgins to join the Lions.
"The one that excites me the most on that list is Tee. Like I said, they have two number ones over there in Cinci too with having Tee over there. Tee can make some serious plays, especially down the field. I love his game. Respect to all those guys on the list, but if they don't tag Tee, shoot, that would be a great addition even though we have a great corps here as well."
There is no doubt that Higgins, along with St. Brown, Williams, LaPorta, Gibbs and Montgomery would be the most dangerous offense that you can ever imagine, but that might be all you can ever do is imagine. This one is very unlikely to happen.
As Adams mentions in the video, the Bengals are very likely to franchise tag Higgins either Monday or Tuesday of the week ahead of free agency. They have to do something to try to keep both him and Ja'Marr Chase.
Now, if they don't tag him, he's likely to get flat out paid in free agency. Cap expert Joshua Queipo is projecting that if Higgins hits the open market, he'll get a three-year deal worth $90 million. That would make him one of the top 10 highest paid receivers in the NFL right now. The Lions already have the fourth highest paid in St. Brown and they'll likely have to pay Williams big next year.
That's not to say that the Lions won't be receiver shopping in free agency or the draft this offseason, but they'd be highly unlikely to go out and pay top dollar for one. Still, it's fun to imagine.
Detroit Lions free agency: 4 players the Lions should definitely avoid and Just Say No to
There is no time of year like free agency in the NFL. It is a chaotic mess where you can't really fall asleep and when you do, you hear the sound of your phone notifications in your dream. But I love it! One of my favorite things to do every year is the Just Say […]
