The Detroit Lions had a lot of mistakes on Sunday, and it’s easy to see things get washed together to a point where you feel like the Lions are just doomed, and it’s all going down from here. In reality, the Lions could have won on Sunday, and it was more the little things that killed them in the end. Lions head coach Dan Campbell has a very simple checklist for what the Lions’ goals are this week. Let’s go over them.

Cut missed assignments in half

These were really easy to see on the offensive line. There were some communication issues that, once those get shored up, could easily be a big fix. Campbell said there were multiple occasions where guys on the line were not hearing their calls, and it resulted in moments like this where Glasgow appears to go the wrong way. What likely happened is he went the right way, and Mahogany went the wrong way because the kill wasn’t heard.

Regardless of who did what, it was wrong, and it was likely because of a communication issue. Glasgow needed to adjust here, but maybe he assumed someone else was doing their job.

Be more efficient in the red zone

I know everyone is super mad about John Morton, but he got this offense in the scoring position four times, and they only scored once. The Lions were getting their offense downfield. The game plan was working in that regard. But things stalled out in the red zone. If the Lions score on two more of those possessions, this was a tie game in the fourth quarter, and we’re talking about a possible win today because the Lions’ defense performed a lot better on defense in the second half of the game. They could have pulled this off.

Get takeaways

Brian Branch had a pick-six called back for dumb reasons, but right before that play, Alex Anzalone had a sure-fire interception that he just dropped. The Lions get that pick, and they’re in the red zone, and that would have been another chance to score. Extra possessions are always good. The Lions are getting chances at them, but they need to actually get them and then capitalize.

There you go, that’s it. Pretty simple stuff. The Lions don’t have to fire John Morton, trade Jared Goff, or do anything insane. They just have to fix the little things.
