Dan Campbell talks about whether or not the Lions will be active at the NFL trade deadline, Brad Holmes has brought ideas to him already
What does Campbell expect the Lions to do next week?
The NFL Trade Deadline is right around the corner. It’ll be next Tuesday at 4:00 P.M. Eastern time. Everyone is wondering what the Detroit Lions will do this year. That includes Lions head coach Dan Campbell. He was asked on Friday how much the Lions are doing their due diligence in the trade market. He said that’s all Brad Holmes.
“If there’s somebody he (Holmes) knows that he feels good about and that I would, then he’ll bring it. Otherwise, he doesn’t. He doesn’t bog me down with any of that. Campbell said Friday. “The amount of time spent, and players that are looked at between he and Ray (Agnew) and that staff is, you’d be shocked at the hours he goes in. So they’re doing the legwork. And if there’s somebody that he thinks is intriguing, he thinks the price could be right, it’s somebody maybe he fits us. It could be a need, then it comes to me like, ‘hey, let’s check this out.’ But otherwise, I just kind of stay away from that.”
Does Dan Campbell think the Lions will make a trade at the deadline?
At this point, Campbell says he doesn’t think the Lions will be active at the deadline this year, but he also said that just because he thinks that now, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Campbell says Holmes has brought some ideas for players his way already, so it’s going to be a wait-and-see type situation.
There are multiple reports out there that the Lions have been making calls about edge rushers and cornerbacks. We’ve touched a lot on edge rushers like Jaelan Phillips, Arden Key, and Anfernee Jennings as potential options, and there doesn’t seem to be many cornerback options out there right now and how the Lions looking to trade for one doesn’t really make much sense with Terrion Arnold expected to play this week and then D.J. Reed looking like he’ll be back next week.
We’ll see what happens come Monday and Tuesday. Don’t get your hopes up high, but maybe have them up a little bit.
