We all know that Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell is a very aggressive coach. The man loves to go for it on a fourth down. They've done it 22 times this year. Five of them were on Sunday alone.
Sometimes this guy is just crazy though. Sometimes Campbell will microwave a fork while holding the plugged in microwave outside in a rain storm with one arm while he smokes a pack of Marlboro Reds with the other. That's what Campbell did Sunday when the Lions were well within field goal range on and 4th-and-2. Analytics will tell you all day that you need to kick a field goal there.
Instead Campbell took a drag off that red, threw an extra fork in the microwave and went for it. Sam LaPorta caught a six yard pass and the Lions burnt the rest of the clock before Riley Patterson kicked the winning field goal. Campbell then put that cigarette out on his hand before he used it shake Brandon Staley's hand after the game. He then peeled out of Sofi Stadium in his Trans-Am with Metallica's Shortest Straw blaring.
All jokes aside, what a moment. Lions fans always say they want a coach that coaches to win, well there's your guy right there. It was so easy to just kick that field goal and hope for the best. Most team probably would have done it. This is what won the game at the end of the day.
Who needs analytics right? By the way, here are the Lions best and worst Pro Football Focus grades from Sunday.
