Despite the incoherent ramblings of some Packers fans, the officials didn't win the Lions the game, in fact they almost lost it for them

The Detroit Lions are a very good team right now. It's just that simple. With that comes one of the oldest things in the football book. The idea that good teams are propelled by officials. It's been around for a long time. Lions fans have been all in on this method of complaining for a while too. Everyone does it.
The big difference here is that the Lions are supposed to be the little brother. They're supposed to be the team that you just beat and everyone laughs at. That's not happening anymore. This team is very good and nobody is having a harder time with that than fans of the other three NFC North teams.
They cannot accept that this team is good, so they're attaching qualifiers to help cope with the losses. For the Vikings it's that the Lions are a dirty team that's putting out hits like the Bountygate Saints. Not sure what Bears fans are doing. They've been quiet.
Packers fans are handling it the worst. Maybe it's because of guys like this.
Packers fans were fans of the class of this divsion for so long that they just cannot handle that they are just not the main character anymore. The world moved on and the Lions got better. Instead of just saying "congrats," there's been a lot of Packers fans accusing the Lions of benefiting from the officials every time they beat the Packers.
That's just not the case. If you actually watched this game then you would maybe come away with a different point of view. The Lions had to overcome a lot of stuff on just the final drive alone. Stuff that would make a guy scream "The NFL is fixed" during the game.
I don't know what side of things that guy was on and it didn't happen during the final drive, but fits this so well doesn't it? Here's what did happen on that final drive in the last two minutes alone.
- Ragnow gets called for the worst holding call you've seen in a while and the Lions get backed up to 1st-and-20 right after the two minute warning.
- St Brown catches what looked to be a first down and was initially ruled a first down. Packers take their final time out. Then the officials changed the call and made it third and short. Packers get their time out right back and elect to use it. If the Packers get the stops, they get a shot to win the game. They couldn't.
The Lions got out of this jam, but ask any Detroit fan what would have happened in the old days. I'll just tell you. The Packers get the stop, the Lions somehow miss the field goal and the Packers march down the field easily and win the game on a field goal and then every year someone puts out a tweet of the video of how the Packers won and call it the Motown miracle or something like that.
Oh wait, there already is Motown Miracle. Remember the Aaron Rodgers hail mary? What about the phantom face mask call the Lions had to go through to set that hail mary up? If Packers fans want to talk about losing games because of officiating, they should probably take a seat and let a Lions fan explain what that really looks like. Until then just take the loss and move on.
A rag tag group of misfits push a ‘depleted’ Lions defense to a win over the Packers, 6 other big takeaways
What a game man. What a game! The Detroit Lions fought tooth and nail and found a way to win and clinch the playoffs in back to back years for the first time since 1995 with a 34-31 win. Goff Report Yeah, Goff threw a pick and that was bad. Then he completed his last […]
