I know that Detroit Lions fans aren't particularly ready to start talking about the draft right now, but a lot of the league is. We here at A to Z Sports are beginning our company wide draft stuff this week and the NFC North is the first division up. Today we'll be talking about the five areas that are the Lions  biggest needs right now. Let's start it off with an obvious one.

Cornerback

The Lions could really use some help here. Cameron Sutton, Jerry Jacobs and Brian Branch have been fine for the most part, but this team needs a definitive cornerback one of the future and I don't think they have that right now. No to mention they have a depth problem. Will Harris is a utility player and is good in spurts, but if he has to play the whole game, he tends to get beat. Then with Emmanuel Moseley, his career is up in the air at the moment.

Players to watch: Kalen King, Nate Wiggins, Cooper DeJean, Terrion Arnold and T.J. Tampa.

Edge Rusher

The Lions need to get some pass rush going. Their defense could be so much if they had someone who could take advantage of the attention that Aidan Hutchinson gets. The Lions could take their chances in free agency and pay a high price, or they can try to score one in the draft. There's quite a few decent options in this draft.

Players to watch: Chop Robinson, Bralen Tice, Jared Verse, Dallas Turner and JT Tuimoloau.

Wide Receiver

I talk about it all the time on here and I'll keep doing it until it happens. This team has a lot of talent at receiver. They have a star in Amon-Ra St. Brown, a burner in Jameson Williams and some utility guys in Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond. But they don't have that big bodied guy that can go up and get the ball in the red zone. They don't have that contested catch guy. The draft presents an opportunity to go out and get that guy.

Players to watch: Johnny Wilson, Rome Odunze, Keon Coleman and Adonai Mitchell.

Defensive Tackle

Alim McNeil is one of the very best interior defensive linemen in the NFL right now, but the spot next to him has been a revolving door all season long. Isaiah Buggs has been inactive, then active and then inactive again. Benito Jones has struggled to be consistent and the Brodric Martin project looks like it might take more time. Here's a chance to land someone that could be a real help next to McNeil.

Players to watch: Leonard Taylor III, Kris Jenkins, Dontay Corleone and Mason Smith.

Safety

C.J. Gardner-Johnson makes this whole thing a question. Is he going to stay? He's only on a one year deal and you never know where that's going go after this season. The Lions could use some depth or a guy that can take over the starting spot from Tracy Walker and take it into the future. Walker has one more year left on his deal. You'd think the Lions would look to keep him, but you never know.

Players to watch: Karmen Kinchens, Tyler Nubin, Calen Bullock and Billy Bowman Jr.

Detroit Lions mailbag: Are there any other free agents that can help?

Week 11 is here and its time or another Detroit Lions mailbag. As always, we have a lot of good questions from Lions fans. Let's jump into them. We'll start with a free agent question.  There's no question that the Lions could use some help in the secondary. Especially after a rough outing like they […]
